Inclement Weather Procedures

Beginning in the 2020-2021 school year, Fort Zumwalt School District can implement Alternative Methods of Instruction (AMI) rather than lose a day to inclement weather. Learn more about AMI

In the event of an AMI day, families and staff will be notified in the same fashion they have been in the past for inclement weather. State law provides the district with the ability to use 36 hours of AMI time, which translates to six snow days. These days DO NOT have to be made up. In the event weather closes schools more than those six days, those missed days would have to be made up at the end of the school year.

Fort Zumwalt has instituted a telephone broadcast system that will enable the District to notify all households and parents by phone within minutes in the event of a school closing. When initiated, this system is capable of calling the number you list as home, which is the first number you want called, as well as the numbers listed as Parent #1 cell and Parent #2 cell. If you do not have a land line to your home, be sure to include the cell number you want called first in the home field.

Caller ID will display 636-272-6620, the number of the Fort Zumwalt School District’s main office.

If you answer live, there will be a short pause following your initial greeting and then the message will be played. If you miss any part of the message press 1 to hear the message repeated in its entirety.

The system will leave a voice message. The maximum number of rings before hang up is 5 rings. If your number is busy, the system will retry twice in 15 minute intervals after the initial call.

Early/Late Calls—Calls before 7 a.m. or after 7 p.m. will only be sent to the number listed as your Home phone number.
It is important for you to keep your phone numbers updated with the school office. This will enable the district to have accurate information so that you are contacted in the event of a crisis, emergency or school closing situation.

Remember: You must OPT IN to receive text messages. Follow these steps to opt in for texts.

If you download the Fort Zumwalt app, be sure your settings allow notifications so you'll get the information there as well.

School closings are also listed on our website, Facebook and Twitter pages as well as on television Channels 2, 4, 5 and 30. They are also announced on KMOX on the AM radio.
