How to download books from
Bookshare.org
for Students and Parents
On an iPad
Download Read2Go ($19.99), Voice Dream Reader, or
Documents (free)
(Read2Go and Voice Dream Reader are designed to work with Daisy format books and has full range of options)
On the internet, log into Bookshare.org with your
email and password.
Look for the link “My Reading
List”
Once you open this, your child
will have a list of books and textbooks for their grade.
For each textbook, click
“download”. You may have to go through a few screens, continuing to hit
“download”
Eventually you will see the book
listed with the word “Available” in blue.
Click “Available”
If you are on an iPad, it will ask
what you want to open it with.
Choose your app. If you just have Documents, use that instead.
It should open the book and add it to your "Library" on the app.
To listen/read on the computer
Download one of the programs from the
Bookshare.org website such as Capti Narrator
For Capti Narrator, be sure to have it add a bookmark to your toolbar.
At any point while on the web, you can click the "Add to Capti" bookmark and your web page will be loaded.
To access Bookshare books, go to the Bookshare site and login with your student password.
Go to your "My Reading List" to find your books.
Click "Read Now" and Bookshare will open your book on the internet using Capti.
To download via
computer to USB onto notetaker
Go to the Bookshare.org website
Log in with your email and
password
Go to "My Bookshelf" for literature and textbooks.
For each textbook, click
“download”. You may have to go through a few screens, continuing to hit
“download”
Eventually you will see the book
listed with the word “Available” in blue.
Click “Available”
It will open in a Documents window
that shows the zipped file.
Click the file once and choose
"Extract All Files", before you click ok, choose your USB drive as
the Selected Location to download to. Click OK and then Extract.
Close all programs using your USB.
Plug USB into a drive in the
notetaker.
Go to File Manager, then Copy a Document
It asks "Drive?"
Hit space until it has "hard
disk" (your thumbdrive's memory), hit Enter
It asks "Drive to save to?" Hit space until you hear "flash drive" (your notetaker's memory)
Then it will ask you for the
Folder, hit space until you hear the one you want, then hit Enter
The document will save and you're done!
